Rugby has gone from strength to strength in the college in recent years. A little over 5 years ago we had little to no rugby, since then we have grown and developed tremendously. We now find ourselves with 3 teams, 1st Years, Juniors & Seniors, and over 110 rugby players across the school. We have a talented and committed group of coaches who are comprised of teachers, external coaches and past pupils who return to help develop the next generation. Our first years compete in 7s, 10s and 15s throughout their first year to give them as much exposure as possible to rugby in their first year. They then progress to Junior in 2nd & 3rd Year. Our Junior team competes in the 3A Leinster League, we have competed strongly in this competition in recent years and have also won numerous Dublin Development Cups in the last 5 years. After much success at 3A level our Seniors have moved up a division to 2A, where we find ourselves competing against and beating more traditional rugby schools with the aim of qualifying for the Vinnie Murray Cup which acts as the Leinster Schools Senior Cup Qualifier.
In recent years, we have had many players represent the Leinster Metro team, some represent the province itself and most recently this year we have had our first Irish international at U18 level. This is due to increased training, improved coaching and an increased player pool. If the truth be told we are only at the beginning of our rugby journey but the level of improvement we have seen in a few short years has been remarkable. Most of our players play outside the school also for clubs such as DLSP RFC, Old Wesley RFC and Lansdowne RFC to name but a few. We are particularly grateful to DLSP RFC who act as our home ground, many of our players play with the club each weekend and the club kindly offers us coaching assistance. The relationship greatly benefits all parties. We would like to extend our thanks to parents who attend the boys games and to local businesses which have supported our rugby progress with sponsorship.
