The BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2016 took place at the RDS on 7th – 9th January. Daniel Fox represented the school with his project entitled “Get a Grip with LEGO”. Daniel’s project was entered in the Chemical, Physical & Mathematical Sciences category as an individual in the junior age group. Out of 2048 project submissions, it was an amazing achievement to be one of the 550 projects to qualify.

After setting up his project on Tuesday evening, with plenty of media attention, it was an early start again on Wednesday for the first round of judging and the official opening ceremony, with guest of honour, President Michael D Higgins. On Thursday, the doors finally opened to the public. The day was spent speaking to hundreds of people all about the “Science behind the Brick”, not forgetting another two rounds of judging! The school Twitter account (@benildusnews) was constantly updated with pictures of Daniel getting interviewed by various newspapers and TV programmes, all of which he took in his stride – a total natural!

On Friday the final judging took place, and all of Daniel’s hard work was rewarded after the Awards Ceremony when his project was awarded Highly Commended.

Daniel was a fantastic representative for the school, and we are all very proud of his achievement at the event. If you are interested in entering the 2017 event, the BTYSTE website contains lots of information on the different categories and how to enter your project.
