St Benildus College hosted the Third Annual Rás Benildus 5k Run/Walk @ 19:30 on Friday the 17th of May 2019. A huge crowd of people, from near and far, enjoyed the genuine atmosphere of fun and friendship that prevailed on this beautiful May evening. The Rás is a wonderful community initiative which brings people together to enjoy a healthy and enjoyable journey, at whatever pace, through the local communities of Kilmacud and Sandyford. Rás Benildus is a truly inclusive event, which is open to individuals and to families, indeed parents with buggies and dogs on leads are most welcome! The Rás Benildus course is predominantly on footpaths in the locality. In fact, there is only one road to be crossed which is at the Drummartin Link Rd/Upper Kilmacud Rd intersection (see map below). The course, as always, was well marshalled and local Gardaí were on hand to provide traffic support.
The Rás Benildus 2019 proceeds of €4,000 went to Our Lady’s Hospice in memory of our former teacher Mr Kevin Tuohy and to Walk While You Can, Fr Tony Coote’s inspiring initiative, in support of those suffering with Motor Neuron Disease.
Here are some other key statistics from Rás Benildus 2019:
- Over 100 parents supplied cakes/sandwiches etc. for Rás Benildus 2019.
- Over 400 portions of chips were eaten at Rás Benildus 2019.
- Over 100 volunteers helped out at Rás Benildus 2019.
- Over 500 people participated in Rás Benildus 2019 (a massive increase since 2017 when we had 240).
We are very grateful to Action 24 – Rás Benildus Main Sponsor. Ní neart go cur le chéile! (we really do not know our true strength until we work together!)
